Volunteers play an essential part in the charity, enabling our vital services to run smoothly. Any time you have to give is appreciated!

We believe volunteering should be enjoyable, rewarding and personally fulfilling. Our friendly team of volunteers come from all over South Warwickshire and Rugby District. And we appreciate as much time as you can give to enable our vital services to run smoothly, with times available to suit you. You are the key to enable local people to live their lives to the fullest.

Available Opportunities

Volunteer Drivers

A typical journey would be to take clients to medical appointments or to groups and activities to enable social interaction.

You must hold a valid driving licence, been driving for at least three years and have no more than 6 penalty points on your licence. You will need to provide an MOT certificate (if applicable) and an Insurance Certificate. A Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) check will be carried out at no charge to you.

All bookings are taken by the Community Transport Service. You will be covered under the charity's public liability insurance but the driver must have their own vehicle insurance and notify their insurance provider that they are a volunteer driver (in some cases this can reduce your premiums but this cannot be guaranteed). You will be paid at the HMRC travel rates, currently 45p per mile.

How Often:

As often as you would like! Some drivers are available on specific days; others provide an ad hoc service. The great thing about being a driver is you only have to accept the journeys you wish to.

Looking For:

We need drivers from all areas in South Warwickshire and Rugby District. Areas covered: Stratford, Alcester, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Kenilworth, Southam, Rugby, Shipston & the surrounding villages.

Telephone Operators

(Stratford upon Avon Head Office)

We need volunteers to take bookings over the phone for our Community Transport Service. You’ll be taking transport bookings, entering details on a computer and be part of a friendly group in our Stratford Head Office. Or if you prefer to work from home, this can be arranged. Full training is given. Perfect if you have a spare few hours in the morning or afternoon.

Telephone volunteers will be trained to use our transport booking system. You must be computer literate and have a friendly telephone manner. You are the first port of call for our transport service users and represent VASA.

How Often:

Morning or afternoon slots available: 9am-1pm or 1pm-4pm

Activity Hosts & Helpers

We like to offer a wider range of activities for adults in the area. We currently need help running our Memory Clubs and Carers’ Cafés in Stratford upon Avon / Wellesbourne / Leamington Spa / Shipston on Stour.

Do you have a skill or a hobby you enjoy and would like to share with others? You don’t need to be an expert or qualified, just a friendly manner and a willingness to share your craft with others. This could be singing, knitting, reading.

Your time is the key to help people live their lives fully. We are on the look out for volunteers to lead fun and uplifting sessions and put a smile on someone’s face. Or perhaps you prefer to put the kettle on and have a friendly chat. You can really make a difference to someone’s day.

How Often:

Some groups meet weekly, some fortnightly or monthly, so whether you are interested in leading a group or supporting one of the groups, we look forward to hearing from you.

Benefits:

Travel and out of pocket expenses may be reimbursed.

Allotments

Our volunteers come from all walks of life. Maybe you like gardening and can help plant a sensory garden in our wellbeing allotment in Studley? Or be involved with growing vegetables at our community allotment in Stratford upon Avon?

How Often:

Could be weekly or monthly, anytime that can be offered would make a difference.

Benefits:

Fresh air and feel the mental and physical benefits of working with nature.

Gentle Walks

We are looking for volunteers to lead walks and support walk leaders for monthly group meets.

How Often:

Most groups meet monthly, a walk leader would need to commit to two hours per month, volunteers an hour per month.

Benefits:

We know that just five minutes outside each day makes a difference to physical and mental health so any outdoor activities improve wellbeing. Travel and out of pocket expenses may be reimbursed.

Training:

Walk leaders will need to attend a two-hour training session.

Fundraising Events

We plan quirky fundraising activities each year. We are a very small team and need volunteers to join our Events Committee to help in the planning and promotion of our fun fundraising events and ideas.

2023 is VASA's 45th anniversary and we will be holding events during the year to thank past and present volunteers and supporters. Would you like to be involved in helping us with our celebrations during this milestone year?

How Often:

Ad hoc, whenever we are organising an event.

Volunteer Ambassador

You would be a champion for VASA’s volunteers. Looking for opportunities to give volunteers a thank you from the communities they serve. Liaising with office staff and organisations in the area to deliver benefits for our volunteers. Also, looking for opportunities to spread the word about VASA’s services and encourage people to try their hand at volunteering.
