The Coffee Shop

VASA was instrumental in the set up and management of the Stratford Hospital coffee shop which has been running for over 16 years. Volunteers were recruited and managed by the VASA team, a committee established and guidance given on procedures and policies used. Continued advice and practical help has helped the volunteer team develop a close knit community group and a very successful delivery of light refreshments for the patients and visitors at the Stratford Hospital

The Challenge

To set up and establish a volunteer run coffee/tea shop within the Stratford Hospital in Arden Street to offer patients and visitors refreshments within a confined space and without hot meal provision.

This project was in partnership with the hospital trust and has run over 16 years.

The Solution

Set up a volunteer led service to manage the coffee shop within the hospital grounds in partnership with the hospital. VASA recruited and managed over 50 volunteers to enable the coffee shop to be established. A committee was established reporting to the board at VASA and the coffee shop has been successfully managed for over 15 years. VASA provided all advice and governance.  In 2016, the community group leading this project were made independent of VASA and continue with the project.
