Preparing for your interview
You may wish to discuss your ideas about volunteering with the Volunteer Centre. We can arrange an informal, confidential one-to-one meeting with you so that any questions you have may be answered. This initial interview will be a two way process; an opportunity for both parties to find out more.
Most volunteer-involving organisations will also want to interview you so that you and they can ask questions.
Questions to ask yourself before you volunteer
1. What do you hope to gain out of volunteering?
2. How much time can you spare for volunteering and when are you available?
3. How far are you willing / able to travel?
4. What type of activity are you interested in?
5. What skills do you have that you want to use in your volunteering work?
Questions you need to ask the volunteer-involving organisation
1. What commitments do they expect from you?
2. Who will support and help you in your volunteering?
3. Do they have a written role description of the volunteering opportunity?
4. Do they pay out-of-pocket expenses such as travel?
5. How do volunteers fit in with the structure of the organisation?
