The Loft Workshop Furniture Project

People at The Loft

Recycling: we collect donated furniture and electrical goods (freezers, fridges and cookers), which are cleaned and renovated before being placed with families on low income or other genuine need.
Between April 2008 and March 2009, we collected 17.00 tonnes of items from doorsteps in the District and delivered 16.1 tonnes to families in need that would otherwise have gone to landfill. In total, 166 households and 498 individuals benefited from the programme.
We also have a woodworking workshop where people recovering from mental health issues are supported to learn new skills and gain self-confidence. Service users make small items of garden furniture from reclaimed timber, most of which is either recycled or donated by the Royal Shakespeare Company. Service users are referred to us by their Community Psychiatric Nurse.  If you or someone you know would like more information about joining The Loft, please ask the CPN to contact VASA.
We also operate a weekly handicrafts group for vulnerable women who have been victims of some form of abuse or who are suffering or recovering from mental illness. The handicrafts group offers a safe, supportive environment for women to develop their creative side, socialise with others, and gain self-confidence.
The project is funded by Stratford on Avon District Council, Stratford-upon-Avon Town Trust, and Warwickshire County Council, and is supported by Orbit Heart of England. VASA is very grateful to these organisations for their support, without which the project would not exist.
