We introduced administration fees for Volunteer Transport Service clients on 1 September 2014.
Over the past 12 months the grant funding we receive to administer the service has reduced. In the future it is likely that our grant funding will reduce further and be conditional on us taking measures to make the service more self-sustaining.
In the knowledge that funding was reducing we have worked hard over the past year to minimise the costs of running the service. Our accommodation and operating costs are now at their lowest for many years.
We appreciate that introducing administration fees is a big change, but we hope that clients will understand our need to do this. Our priority is to ensure continuation of the service whilst providing the best value to clients that we can achieve.
The administration fees are:
- For journeys of 6 miles or less the administration fee is £1. The driver’s expenses remain at £3. The total is £4.
- For journeys of between 7 and 40 miles the administration fee is £2. The driver’s expenses remain at 45p per mile.
- For journeys of between 41 and 100 miles the administration fee is £3. The driver’s expenses remain at 45p per mile.
- For journeys over 100 miles the administration fee is £5. The driver’s expenses remain at 45p per mile.
The administration fee and driver’s expenses are handed to the driver at the end of the journey, i.e. when the driver drops the client back at his or her home.
