One of the many wonderful things about working in a charity like VASA (Voluntary Action Stratford on Avon District) is that you get to hear and see so many wonderful stories unfolding.

The residents of the Stratford on Avon District are incredibly thoughtful and generous people.  One of the letters that really touched us last month was from a client who often uses our community transport service. It illustrates just how wonderful the volunteers are that offer their time to drive those who cannot access transport in the area. It reads:

Thank you for your telephone call yesterday.
My husband, (name) has early onset Alzheimers and VASA driver (name) has been his regular driver for a very long time now.  I cannot praise him highly enough. My husband goes to day care four days a week at The Limes, Stratford upon Avon from our home in Henley in Arden. The only time that (driver name) does not transport my husband is on a Wednesday morning when the Council send a mini bus for him.
During this year alone my husband has had his ups and downs and sometimes did not want to leave the house. During the bad times (driver name) has always been patient and has helped me to persuade my husband to go with him.  He is very reliable and never late.  He has been absolutely wonderful with my husband and his help goes beyond just driving my husband to and from Stratford.  He always settles him in at the destination and when he drops him home he always lets meknow how he has got on that day.  My husband is now very happy to go to (name of destination) and sees (driver name) as a friend rather than just a driver.
His reliability, kindness and friendliness has gone a long way in helping me deal with being my husband’s carer.
I intended to contact you this month in any even to let you know how much (driver’s name) help means to us and how he is not just a normal driver but a caring one too.  I hope you value him as much as we do.

We love hearing how wonderful our volunteer drivers are and wanted to share this letter with you.

Helping people access secure transport to appointments often helps alleviate a carers anxieties about loved ones. VASA have over 150 volunteer drivers and we’re growing!
