The Cabinet Office has launched a consultation on doubling the charity audit threshold from £500,000 to £1 million. This would mean that an estimated 4,000 charities with income between these amounts  would be able to have an independent examination rather than a full audit. It is felt that this is more proportionate reporting and would potentially save charities £2,000 a year.
