Recession hits smaller groups

The recession is causing smaller voluntary and community organisations to lose income, says National Association for Voluntary and Community Acttion (NAVCA).
Its survey of 900 organisations found that donations, sponsorship, grants from trusts and foundation and earned income were all down. Groups with an income of between £10,000 and £150,000 have been the worse hit.
NAVCA also found that demand for services has risen sharply - especially for financial advice, housing support, employment advice and support on issues relating to domestic violence.
Also, there has been an increase in people coming forward to volunteer, and matching them to volunteering opportunities of stretching some organisations’ resources.
